[Intro]
[verse]
A carer is a living being,
Serving an important role,
Of seeing another's needs are met and seen,
With the actions of their soul.
A carer is a living being,
Who makes errors like anyone really,
They may feel tired, down or blue
But continue still when weary.
A carer is a living being,
They wear no steel, no cape,
And yet their creed alone is a hero's act,
Performed for another's sake.
They live across the tarmacked road.
They shop around the corner
They're simply a friend, father or mother,
Or just like me, only the daughter.
If you truly know them you'll know they're a person.
Just a person, that is all. They carry out important, needed tasks
But the vulnerabilities don't affect their soul.
Through the difficulties, the cared for's care is their primary goal.
A carer is the cap that keeps the pen from ever drying,
A carer is the comfort blanket needed for some peace.
A carer is the hand that grips, the voice that says "keep trying",
A carer is that binder that keeps the closed mess nice and neat.
Underneath the tasks, a carer may have dreams and goals.
They wonder who they are and what the future even holds,
Behind the isolation they long so strong for things to change.
They try their best to hold on to who they are when life get's strange.
Carer, if you feel this way, then hold this all to heart.
You're seen, you matter. Without you, things could so easily fall apart.
You're kind and tired. Not unadmired. Not you nor who you care for.
I sculpted you both these written words - you're good enough. Stand tall.
A carer is a living being,
Who may not be heard nor seen,
Yet just a while for this moment,
Let's cherish all that they have been.
